For those that can’t make the David Meek Memorial Ride we’ll be offering the following for all comers: Roll from Heaven & Ale on Cherokee Blvd at 9:00am and head over the Toe to Creek Rd. south to Trenton and a little further South to Byrd’s Chapel Road. Head back north by the Trenton Country Club, climb part of Sand and then back via Slygo Gap, etc. Will be back before the UT vs. Kentucky basketball game starts. 59 miles from this starting point but shorter if you jump on somewhere else.
Saturday 4/13 STUPID STEADY’S SATURDAY
Weather permitting roll from the St Elmo Food City (park at the side please) @ 8:30. Over the Toe, out 299 (yes, regroup after the hill at the truck stop), over Ladd to South Pitt, and then up Jasper Highlands. (I’ve never been up it and wished I hadn’t looked at the course profile……..) We’ll then retrace our path back home, with post-ride recovery at Zorro’s place unless we are too busy burning down Steady’s house. A metric and 4100 feet.
CHECK BACK FOR UPDATES BECAUSE OF THE WEATHER.
Saturday 2/16
Well when you get an email from Bub One that starts, “Sweetie’s leaving me unsupervised again this weekend,” you know it’s going to be good. Roll from Bub One’s house on Burnt Mill Road at 9 am for what he calls, a “no climb” metric route on mostly familiar roads. While we’ll start from Bub’s house we’ll go north first so if you want to meet us at the intersection of Burnt Mill and Salem Rd. that’s your prerogative, but knowing how we finished his email, “and I have plenty of Beers in the fridge on the back porch for, ya know…after” might change your mind on where you park. Route basically meanders through north Georgia but you might want to check the map especially if you’re not sure where his house is.
Saturday 2/9
Roll @ 12 from H&A (TB and Elites). (It’ll be a balmy 37 by then.) We’ll judge temp, wind speed, and barometric pressure then and decide on a route – okay, okay, the determination won’t be made by any of that but instead only by how cold our toes are. Count on either the Survival Sunday route or the North Chatt hills routes. If we select Survival Sunday we may switch the direction of the loop up north if traffic is heavy – I know we just climbed Hotwater but if the group is large and traffic heavy seein’ as how it will be mid-day we may want to avoid having hurtful things yelled at us on Montlake. If we do Survival Sunday those wanting more could climb Signal on the way back through which will put you in the 65+ range.
Saturday 2/2
Roll from Falling Water @ 9:30 for a Bubba favorite. Yes, the Armstrong/Lee/May raceway up to Daugherty Ferry with an optional climb up Hotwater. Optional loop on top (gonna be cool Sat morning but should be warmer by the time we get there) and lots of ways to short it for those with less time or desire. As mapped it’s 60 miles, 3500 feet for the whole enchilada. Strong men wanting more should roll from the Aldi (Kmart) at 8:50 – that stretches it to 80+. And remember fellers, it’s February so if you are looking for a full-blown hammerfest look elsewhere.
And even more important than the usual Ginger vs Mary Ann debate, Bubba will spend the majority of this one debating whether it’s Merv’s or H&A post ride.
Saturday 1/26 no climb
Saturday morning we be fretfully cold. So, we’ll Roll @ 12:00 from the Handup Handle and Bar (Bandit’s place) at 1155 E. Main St. BubOne promises that the first round post-ride is on the house although I’m not sure if he’s told Bandit that. It’ll be a metric, and while there’s a climb/no climb option there’s definitely a group that will take the no climb route ;). Lots of ways to short either route for those with less time. Check the website for updates Saturday morning.
Saturday 3/2
DAVID MEEK MEMORIAL KOM RIDE
Roll from Suck Creek Cycle @ 8:00. Go until you can’t. Phase One mapped below is 70 miles and 6500 feet. Phase Two adds 25 miles and a crawl up Robert’s Mill. Why? Because that’s the way Dave would have liked it.
Sat. 1/19/19
Rainout. Makeup Sunday at 2pm. Roll from Heaven & Ale at 2pm for some fun on the Riverview Hills
Saturday 1/12/19
Update: Warmer than predicted but possible showers. Will check radar in the lot but will likely stay closer to the cars
Saturday 1/5
Still in winter pace mode, Bubba (TB and Elites) rolls from the Signal Rd Kmart (now an Aldi) at 8:30. We’ll stick to a Bubba Basic and head up Hotwater via the Foot Washing church. Lots of ways to short it for those who promised Mrs. Bubba they’d be home early to take down the tree. Now look, if you rocket up the climb and get back down to the bank and no one is there, that’s because you didn’t read the map – this time we’ll regroup at the store on top for a loop up there and Fisher also has us going through the golf hood on top instead of straight down Montlake. 55 miles, back around noon, and a bonus climb up Signal for those who actually made a resolution.
